Abbey Home Media Looks to a Bright Future with Wide Eye

February 18th 2003

ABBEY HOME Media is delighted to announce that the 'Wide Eye' television series will be making its eagerly awaited screen debut on CBBC and BBC-2 this autumn.

Co-produced with the BBC and made by the BAFTA award-winning King Rollo Films (Spot, Maisy), this enchanting 26-part animated series is based on the Wide Eye book-based early learning programme which has been sold in over 30 countries.

Targeted at children aged 3-6 and promoted in association with The Pre- School Learning Alliance, this captivating series is set in the magical world of the Natterjack Forest, home to a delightful cast of unusual and memorable animal characters.

Little ones everywhere will revel in the adventures of such endearing creations as the lovable baby owl Little Hoot; his best friend Flea; the playful Natterjack toads; 99 the dozy but lovable centipede; arch mischief maker wily Komodo Dragon and his son Baby Komodo. Together they dream their dreams, learn life's little lessons and are kept safe and sound under the watchful gaze of their guardian owl, Wide Eye.

Full of humour, strong storylines and music plus voiceovers from such established names as Anton Rogers and Jane Horrocks, this unique production is set to be a huge hit with children and parents alike.

A full licensing programme supporting the transmission of the 'Wide Eye' television series has already begun. By early next year, the existing range of books, videos and audio cassettes will be expanded to include everything from toys to DVDs.

Commented Executive Producer and the BBC's Head of Acquisitions and Co-productions Theresa Plummer Andrews: "CBBC is truly delighted to be involved with 'Wide Eye'. It is one of the most charming pre-school products on the market, with great characters and really skilful storytelling scripts which are also very funny. The 'Wide Eye' series will delight pre-schoolers for years to come, carrying on CBBC's tradition of offering only the very best to its younger viewers."

Added Ian Miles, Chairman and CEO of Abbey Home Media: "'Wide Eye' is the most exciting property Abbey has ever been involved with. We are confident it will be a great success both with viewers and, as the brand develops, with the consumer. It is entertaining, informative and above all completely original."
