Abbey Home Media Group to make its MIPTV debut
5th February 2003
ABBEY HOME MEDIA GROUP, one of the UK's leading creators of children's programming for broadcast and publishing, will be taking a stand for the first time at this year's MIPTV.
Among the key personnel attending the festival will be Chairman and CEO Ian Miles; Joint Managing Directors Anne Miles and James Harding; Head of Broadcast & International Sales Mike Robinson; Sales Director Emma Freeman and Sales & Marketing Executive Rebecca Hill.
Operating from Stand Number 04.31, Abbey's representatives will be at the festival to both sell and acquire programming and to promote the company's growing catalogue of children's brands.
Abbey Home Media's product roster will be spearheaded by the multi media launch of the Wide Eye television series. Co-produced with the BBC and made by the BAFTA award-winning King Rollo Films (Spot, Maisie), the 26 x 10 minutes 2D animation is due to air on CBBC and BBC2 this autumn.
Featuring existing material from the Wide Eye book-based early learning programme which has been sold in over 30 countries, together with specially created material, the series is targeted at children aged 3-6. As with Abbey's other pre-school programming, it is promoted in association with The Pre School Learning Alliance.
Full of lively and endearing animal characters, humour, strong storylines and music plus voiceovers from such established names as Anton Rogers and Jane Horrocks, this delightful series is based on the open knowledge that children learn best when they are stimulated by multi-sensory experiences.
Commented Executive Producer and the BBC's Head of Acquisitions and Co-productions Theresa Plummer Andrews: "CBBC is truly delighted to be involved with Wide Eye. It is one of the most charming pre-school products on the market, with great characters and really skilful storytelling scripts which are also very funny. The Wide Eye series will delight pre-schoolers for years to come, carrying on CBBC's tradition of offering only the very best to its younger viewers."
Added Ian Miles, Chairman and CEO of Abbey Home Media: "Wide Eye is the most exciting property Abbey has ever been involved with. We are confident it will be a great success both with viewers and, as the brand develops, with the consumer. It is entertaining, informative and above all completely original."
Aside from the launch of Wide Eye, Abbey Home Media will also be actively promoting the following brands at this year's MIPTV:
The Giraffe and the Pelly and Me: 50-minute animation special based on the best selling book by Roald Dahl. Produced by King Rollo Films using full cell animation, it remains faithful to the original Quentin Blake illustrations.
Baby Bright: a revolutionary new infant learning range developed in conjunction with Professor Annette Karmiloff-Smith, Head of the Neurocognitive Development Unit at Great Ormond Street Hospital, one of the world's leading authorities in baby development. Strong on fun and entertainment, the range of books, audios and videos is full of attractive colours, exciting textures, touch, sensation and music designed to maximise babies' attention span and develop their curiosity.
Lost In the Snow: produced in conjunction with Carlton Television, this delightful 30-minute animated special is based on the popular picture book by award-winning children's writer and illustrator Ian Beck. Featuring the voices of Hugh Laurie (Stuart Little) and Helen Baxendale (Cold Feet) and made by the award-winning Honeycomb Animation.
Mother Goose: created by experts in infant development, this superb production combines traditional rhymes with a modern approach to learning, including fun, interactive karaoke sessions that parents and children can share.
Plus: Teddy Trucks; Wow - That's What I Call Christmas; Wow That's What I Call Nursery Rhymes; First Fun With French; First Fun With Spanish; Paddington's Alphabet Treasure Hunt; Mr Men Great Alphabet Treasure Hunt; Golden Treasury Of Nursery Rhymes and One Two Buckle My Shoe.
Ian and Anne Miles, the co-founders of the Abbey Home Media Group, have spent 13 years working with television broadcasters to develop award-winning television programming. Recently re-established under these original owners, the company is recognised as one of the UK's most vibrant forces in international children's publishing.
Abbey effectively created the pre-school video market and was also the first company to record "character" led stories in the UK. Over the last few years, its product ranges have grown to encompass not only audio and video, but also book and multi-media packages.
