Baby Bright Proves You
Are Never Too Young To Learn
October 2000
A new video concept that helps to stimulate children's
minds is set to revolutionise the way babies learn and
develop in their first 12 months.
'Baby Bright' is produced by leading producers of children's
television programmes and videos, Abbey Home Entertainment,
in association with Professor Annette Karmiloff-Smith,
Head of the Neurocognitive Development Unit at Great Ormond
Street Hospital in London, who has acted as scientific
consultant on the project.
The video is specially designed to capture babies' attention
and maintain their interest. It presents images and sounds
that are proven to stimulate babies' minds, while also
providing fun and entertainment. This is achieved through
the use of colours, shapes, numbers, music, sound and
language using a combination of techniques, including
still photography, graphics, live action and animation.
While appearing random, the sequences and routines have
been designed by Professor Karmiloff-Smith to maximise
a baby's attention span and develop their curiosity. The
video encourages interaction and is intended to be a fun
tool for parental involvement.
Professor Karmiloff-Smith says: "Many videos simply encourage
passive viewing, but 'Baby Bright' makes babies truly
active participants." "Not only is this video full
of attractive colours, movements, sounds, objects and
music, but the content has been devised to take account
of the latest scientific research in to what really stimulates
babies and how they structure their own brain development."
The first 'Baby Bright' video will be on sale at all good
video retailers for £9.99, from 4 September 2000. Great
Ormond Street Hospital will receive a royalty from all
sales.
